Three Time Management Tips for Mental Freedom

“Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the only thing he can’t afford to lose.” ― Thomas Edison

Time management is a skill that can provide a sense of control, calm, and peace. By properly planning and navigating your schedule, you’ll have the ability to make clear decisions that impact every part of your life. Possessing such a power unlocks a level of mental freedom worth savoring. Here are three time management tips to achieve the mental freedom you seek.

1. Prioritize Your To-Do List

Moving your to-do list from your mind to a hard copy version helps free mental space. But in order to be most effective, you must prioritize your list. You can begin by writing this list before bed or at the very start of your day. Begin by placing the most urgent items at the top, moving down toward the items you’d like to complete if time allows. Schedule checkpoints throughout the day. Ideally, one midday, with an additional one toward the end of your workday (if necessary). Your midday check-in should be an assessment to see how much you’ve accomplished, and whether you should rearrange, or completely redraft, your to-do list.

2. Follow the 2-Minute Rule

The two-minute rule suggests if a task requires two minutes or less to complete, do it right away. This stops you from adding it to a to-do list or trying to remember to complete it later. You have enough on your plate without filling your mind with several small tasks you have to remember to get done at a later date. Save that space for more important work by handling quick items as they pop up. Of course, you can use your discretion. If you are in the middle of something that requires extreme focus, you don’t need to abandon your project to suddenly be pulled in a different direction for a trivial matter. The point is, allow yourself the space to take care of the two-minute task, if you have two minutes to spare.

3. Be Realistic

Lastly, be realistic. It’s human nature to overcommit. We often believe we’ll be able to accomplish more than actually possible within a certain time period, placing undue stress on ourselves. Instead of setting lofty goals with your daily schedule, be honest with yourself. Consider the amount of work you’ve gotten done each day over the last week, and use that as a model to gauge how much you’re likely to get done tomorrow. Feel free to be a bit optimistic with your estimation, just make sure you don’t forget to be realistic as well.

Our lives are so jammed packed with tasks, events, and responsibilities. It can be a bit overwhelming trying to stay on top of it all. But with these three time management techniques, controlling your schedule just got a little easier. Once you begin to put these techniques into practice, mental freedom is just around the corner!

Mindsets That Can Hinder You From Leaving A Good Legacy

Try and leave this world a little better than you found it, and when your turn comes to die, you can die happy in feeling that at any rate, you have not wasted your time but have done your best – Robert Baden-Powell

Life is a gift too precious to waste. Thus, we expect everyone to enjoy life to the fullest. In our own little way, we all strive to gain experiences, explore opportunities, and achieve success. However, if you truly wish to make your life worthwhile, It is important to be aware of the responsibility to leave a good legacy. But how do you start your journey of leaving a good legacy? You can do this by making an effort to create a positive impact with every project you work on, every place you go to, and in every person you encounter. It also means choosing to avoid negative attitudes and bad habits. The following are three mindsets that will make it impossible for you to leave a wonderful legacy:

Refusing to hone talent and pursue excellence.

A good legacy should inspire people: something you cannot do if you refuse to believe in your own capabilities. Each of us has a talent to share and it is our duty to hone it. Aside from simply pursuing your craft or passion, you also refuse to settle for mediocrity by taking steps to continually improve in what you do. This makes it possible for you to produce outstanding work or accomplish exemplary tasks. Your adherence to excellence will likely empower people and encourage them to do the same. Both your work and your attitude will lead to lasting legacy you can be proud of.

Refusing to act with kindness.

It may not seem apparent but your behavior affects the people around you. Your words and actions can make or break someone’s day. Thus, if your goal is to lead someone in the right direction, you may want to always consider kindness. Practice empathy, patience, and understanding in the way you react to things and interact with others. The decision to be kind can be a bit challenging at times but when you come to think of it, resorting to rude actions and gestures rarely solve anything. On the contrary, choosing kindness can help you make a positive and lasting difference to others.

Refusing to share.

Legacy is sharing, so it involves being generous with your time, talent, and resources. If you can paint, sing, or cook, you may want to seek various ways on how you can use your skills to help society. Instead of stubbornly holding on to too much stuff, consider donating your extra resources to groups that need it. You can also spend valuable time as volunteers to support causes that you believe in. To successfully create a good legacy, practice generosity and throw selfishness out the window.

Leaving a legacy may sound like a big task but is nevertheless something that is worth all the effort. After all, our time in this world may be limited, but the legacy you will leave behind can last for generations to come. Moreover, it is clearly a way of giving back to the world, an action that will likewise give a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

But, generally speaking, simply deciding to participate in a mentoring program should be a no-brainer because these programs offer countless benefits that provide both the mentor and the mentee with invaluable opportunities and experience, and here’s why.

For those considering mentorship, here are 4 Ways Mentoring Enhances Your Life

Mentoring sessions are 100% supportive and completely confidential.

Mentoring sessions are completely confidential, and they provide the mentee with a trusted confidant to talk through any difficulties, setbacks, or problems that are relevant at the time. With the guaranteed trust of both the mentor and the mentee, each mentoring session is certain to a be a productive one, and likely both people will leave feeling refreshed and encouraged on their individual life endeavors.

Mentoring sessions enhances chances for success.

By participating in mentoring sessions, the mentee will gain knowledge, advice, and skills from the real-life experience of someone who is already successful and established in a particular field. Mentoring sessions also provide the mentee with guidance on how to most effectively incorporate the knowledge, advice, and lessons learned into their own life for the highest chances of success.

Mentoring sessions increase professional socialization.

Mentoring sessions are also a chance for the mentee to gain experience in conversing with someone highly well-informed in their field. In doing so, the mentee will gain professional social skills that are tailored to their field and required for success in it. If nothing else, mentoring sessions provide a valuable chance for mentees to network with successful business professionals on a similar career path.

Mentoring sessions provide clarity.

It is completely acceptable for a mentee to go into a mentoring session without a clear idea in mind of what they want their next five, ten, or fifteen years to look like. And what a relieving feeling that is!  Mentoring sessions serve as a tool to create a forward-thinking plan that clarifies future goals and the methods necessary to achieve them. In fact, it’s encouraged to leave behind certain thoughts about the future at the door and enter each session with an open mind. Even if the mentee is sure of their future plans and goals, mentoring sessions provide an opportunity to question and refine these plans so that they serve the mentee in the most successful way possible.
