Seven Ways to Lift People Up

by | Personal Development

Living a life of significance and building a legacy are core values of ours. And what better way to make an impact than to lift people up? There is no shortage of negativity in this world, so let’s do our best to bring positivity, encouragement, and good vibes to those who we’re blessed to connect with.

Spread Love and Lift People Up.

Being positive isn’t just about shouting, texting, or posting encouraging words like, “you can do it!” or “dream big!” It’s so much more than that. Words are impactful, but we’ve compiled even more ways that you can lift people up in your everyday life.

Be an example.

Lifting others up starts with your actions. Emotions are contagious, so being an example of what an uplifting and passionate person looks like will set the encouragement and positivity train in motion. But what do we mean by being an example? Well, it’s doing rather than saying. You can’t tell others to dream big if you’re not doing it yourself. Don’t simply say “step outside of your comfort zone” … you get out there and accomplish great things even though it’s scary.

You will lift people up with the example you set.

Light up the room with your smile.

Make people wonder why you’re so happy. When you enter a room, light it up with your bright demeanor and authentic smile. We call this being a “room-changer.”

Science Daily™ summarizes a review done on why smiles are contagious by stating, “Smile! It makes everyone in the room feel better because they, consciously or unconsciously, are smiling with you.”

You’re sure to lift others up with your beautiful grin.

Share your story.

A pink neon sign that says, “We are all made of stories,” hangs on a wall under a floating bookshelf.

Stories have the ability to change lives. When you share your journey with others, you inspire them to embark on one of their own. Continue to encourage others by telling your story because you never know who needs to hear it most. It may be the next person you talk to.

Your story matters and has the potential to lift people up more than you can imagine.

Practice small acts of kindness.

An obvious way that we can boost someone’s mood is by being kind. A smile goes a long way, but let’s take it one step further by going out of our way. Acts of kindness can be done in big and small ways. Here’s a list of simple ways to brighten someone’s day:

  • Give a genuine compliment.
  • Ask questions and be a listening ear.
  • Send a handwritten note or unexpected flowers to a friend or family.
  • Invite a friend to coffee or lunch.
  • Smile at a stranger.
  • Leave a tip at your coffee shop.

Not only is this a way to lift others up, but performing acts of kindness is a leadership strength

Serve in your community.

A heart is drawn out in white chalk on a wooden bench.

Acts of kindness can be done on a service level as well. Being an impactful member of your community is a way to inspire and help those around you. UC San Diego™ shares “The Top 10 Reasons to Volunteer,” and a couple of our favorites is that it promotes personal growth and brings people together.

Talk about lifting others up and making a difference!

Invest in relationships.

We’ve been talking a lot about people in general, whether those are strangers or new connections, but right now we want to focus on those closest to us.

Sharing your light with your spouse, children, parents, family, and dear friends is the biggest impact you can possibly make. Invest in those closest to you by giving undivided attention, listening well, and loving them in their love language™

Include others in your dream.

Drops of water create a ripple effect in a body of water.

One of the most powerful ways to lift people up is to include them in your goals and ambitions. What do we mean by this? DREAM BIG! When your dreams begin to include how you’ll make a difference in other’s lives, you know you’re starting to envision a life of significance and impact.

Lift People Up and Shine Bright!

Your light will ignite a flame. When you lift others up daily, you’ll begin to create an impact that lives beyond yourself. That’s what we call a legacy.

Legacy is one of our core values. If you want to get a deep dive into another core value of ours, head to our blog, “Developing Self-Discipline and Willpower.”
